Job Purpose
Operations Leads are responsible for building a confident team while ensuring efficiency and quality is met and maintained. The Operations Lead will assist when needed in various positions on the production floor and participate in any other tasks assigned by the Shift Supervisor or Operations Manager. The production areas assigned may change as determined by management to meet production needs. An elevated level of responsibility is expected of Leads -- the safety and productivity of their team reflects their ability to lead.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
Leadership
Operations Leads are responsible for being a leadership resource to team members, providing knowledge, experience, motivation, support, and advice. The Lead is responsible for knowing proper procedures for workers to follow and ensuring that they comply. The Lead might be called upon to share special industry techniques on how to use tools and equipment, or tips on how to improve quality or speed of production. The Lead encourages team effort and supportive attitudes between workers.
If Leads see any behavior from workers that violates MTNA policies, including but not limited to its Non-Discrimination and Non-Harassment policies, the Lead must immediately report such behavior to a manager, supervisor or HR and document the incident or behavior in question. The Lead must instruct the harasser or worker engaging in discriminatory behavior to stop the behavior in question and intercede to separate the parties involved if they are able to do so without risk to their own personal safety. Leads are expected to set a positive example to all workers by following MTNA policies.
Safety
Operation Leads must instruct their teams on proper use of safety equipment and emergency procedures that might become necessary during production. Leads must ensure that their team members are supplied with protective gear where required. The Lead is responsible for safety checks on all equipment throughout production and monitoring safe activities of workers. Security and sanitation of the plant is also a concern for Leads. If incidents occur compromising safety or security, the team Lead must report such incidents to a member of the management team immediately and document the incident.
Production Goals and Quality
Operation Leads are responsible for meeting production goals and quality assurance standards. Leads must ensure product specifications and manufacturing procedures comply with regulations, including those under Company policy, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), OSHA & AIB, etc. The Lead is responsible for maintaining high production standards while reaching production goals and ensuring quality control standards are not compromised. If the Lead is unable to meet production goals or observes quality deficiencies, the Lead should try to identify the cause of the quality defect and confer with their supervisor regarding solutions.
· Ensure your line adheres to 5S, Six Sigma (make your area neat and tidy).
· Report recurring issues to Production Supervisor, Operations Manager or Plant Manager.
· Support Supervisors and all departments’ activities.
Administrative Tasks
Leads are responsible for documentation of chemical testing, reporting production numbers, quality issues and attendance. Leads are responsible for maintaining regular communication with interrelated departments, to plan and execute production goals efficiently. Leads are to keep supervisors abreast of performance issues and policy non-compliance.
Qualifications
· Demonstrate good interpersonal communication, delegation, motivation, and briefing skills to perform this role.
Be a competent team player with strong professional skills able to work with a workforce with a broad diversification and multicultural demographic, sometimes with limited proficiency in English.
To be personable, reliable, confident, and self-motivated, as it is beneficial if employees can work on their own initiative while still carrying out instructions accurately.
To be flexible in relation to the role and hours worked in line with the organization goals and objectives.
Reasonability able to work overtime as production necessitates will be required.
· Previous experience in a similar role of supervising people would be desirable, although training will be available.
· Time management, scheduling, and prioritization skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to make effective decisions quickly while maintaining high-quality standards.
· Ability to use Outlook to communicate accurately by email and ability to learn MS Word, utilize MS Excel spreadsheets, Winprod and other software applications necessary.
· Ability to appropriately prioritize resources based upon needs.
· Project management experience is a plus.
Working conditions
· Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
· Standing for extended periods of time.
· Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer and other devices or objects.
